Hapai te iwi, whakaora te hapori

Uplift the people, bring life to the community

Ko wai matou?

Wairere is a kaupapa Māori social service established in 2017 in response to growing community concern for the wellbeing of whānau and their tamariki, particularly those involved with the Oranga Tamariki care system.

The name “Wairere” means flowing waters and carries a dual meaning for our organisation. It speaks to the currents and tides that connect Aotearoa and the wider Pacific, acknowledging the Māori and Pacific values that guide our mahi. It also refers to the waters within us, a reminder that our work is about clearing pathways, removing barriers, and helping people to move forward in their lives.

Community Support

Wairere is a kaupapa Māori social service that works alongside individuals and whānau facing complex challenges. Established in 2017, we deliver a wide range of support—from housing and transport to mentoring, whānau assistance, and coordinated care—tailored to meet the diverse needs of our communities.

The name “Wairere” means flowing waters. It reflects both the ocean currents that connect Aotearoa to the Pacific, and the waters that flow within us—reminding us of the importance of movement, balance, and wellbeing.

Whether supporting someone through a transition, helping a whānau reconnect, or coordinating essential services, Wairere exists to open pathways, remove barriers, and uplift lives.

Wairere Values

  • At Wairere, we believe in the power of whanau. We understand the importance of family relationships and a sense of belonging. While we do not replace a person's own family, we create an environment where they feel valued and included. Our approach is grounded in strengthening bonds and providing a supportive community for all.

  • Upholding the mana of our clients is a fundamental aspect of our mission. We empower our communities to make choices, set goals, and take control of their lives. We respect their unique journeys and decisions, providing guidance and support as partners in their journey towards independence and self-empowerment.

  • Manaakitanga is the embodiment of respect, generosity, and care. We extend these values not only to our clients but also to their families and our care partners. Our commitment to creating a nurturing environment, where kindness and respect are paramount, fosters a culture of trust and support for everyone we encounter.

  • We are committed to continuous growth and development. Whakapakari represents our dedication to improving, learning, and evolving. We strive to refine our methods, staying at the forefront of social service interventions to ensure our clients receive the best support possible.
